by: Twinomugisha Charles

A Kenyacamping safari is a very common choice for Kenyasafari holidays partly because it tends to be less expensive than staying at the fine Safari lodges and resorts, although there are also some luxury safari options for camping out in Kenya as well.

In general, travelers who are planning to take in the sights and sounds of Kenyawhile camping have the option of either arranging for a private camping safari or a group camping safari.
Camping safaris that are geared toward private groups are designed around any group of two people or more who are traveling together but who are not especially interested in sharing their experience with those they don’t know, outside of the safari guide. These private groups travel in a vehicle separate from any other tour groups and have separate camping facilities for their private use.

Those who prefer a Kenya private camping safari will also be exclusively sharing any facilities of the campground and all of the meals are also shared amongst themselves. Guests who are on a private safari won’t be joined by any others who are on the same safari tour or who might have a similar itinerary. Throughout the trip, they travel exclusively together.

The Kenya group camping safari is for individuals or small groups who feel that part of the experience of safari holidays is traveling with others and getting to know them during the adventure, so that by the end of the safari travel they no longer consider each other as strangers. On this type of safari travel the whole group travels together in the safari vehicles and they share their meals and the entire camp facility, and in some instances will even share larger, community types of tent accommodations.

A group camping safari is not only a good way to get to know others who share interests in adventuresome safari travels, but it is also a very effective way to reduce the cost of a Kenya safari. This can make such a trip more affordable and feasible for people who might not otherwise be able to bear the expense of a private camping safari.

Some Kenyan camping safaris take place at a permanent campground where the safari tour group will stay at a fixed “under canvas” camp. These are essentially tent “homes” that are primarily found in game reserves or at national parks. These camps have “permanent” tented sanitary facilities and a dining hall that is shared by all campers. These kind of camping facilities are popular and can serve as a base camp for walking safaris.

There are also Kenya mobile camping safaris which entail having the entire group traveling together with their all of their equipment and supplies in the safari travel vehicles. This gives the group an opportunity to cover greater distances and go deeper into the wilderness and gives the flexibility of stopping at sites that attract their interests. No matter what type of Kenyacamping safari you choose, you will be sure to return home with memorable experiences emblazoned in your memory.

South Africa has long been regarded as one of the premier destinations when it comes to wildlife watching. From big game safaris to diving with Great White Sharks, animal lovers are spoilt for choice on a holiday in South Africa. Yet if you’d like do more than just see the animals, there are plenty of opportunities to do so. Many of the animals in South Africa have suffered from decades of hunting, poaching and habitat destruction, and continued conservation efforts are the only thing standing between them and extinction. Wildlife conservation holidays are an increasingly popular way of helping this effort, with visitors undertaking voluntary placements for weeks or months to help protect the South African wildlife.

If you’re all set on South Africa as your destination for a wildlife conservation holiday, here are four of the places you could go to…

Amakhala Game Reserve

Amakhala is one of the mostly recently founded game reserves, established in 1999 in the Eastern Cape, and a wildlife conservation holiday here will give you the opportunity to be involved in a reserve that is still very much in development. Lions have recently been introduced to the reserve, and many of the conservation efforts are now focused on monitoring their integration into the ecosystem, so big cat fans will naturally to be drawn to working here! Add in the stunning natural beauty of Amkhala, with the Bushman’s River being a particular highlight, and it is easy to see why this reserve is such a popular destination.

Kariega Game Reserve

Another recently established game reserve in the Eastern Cape, Kariega has the additional appeal of being located just 15km from the beaches at Kenton-on-sea, giving conservation volunteers the chance to relax on the beaches after a hard day’s work in the reserve. Kariega is also notable for its eagle population, with crowned eagles, fish eagles, and martial eagles all present in considerable numbers. So if you are either a beach lover or an avid bird watcher, Kariega could be the place for your wildlife conservation holiday!

Moholoholo Rehab Centre

Many animals in South Africa are unfortunate enough to fall ill or suffer from poisoning, often due to human carelessness, and the Moholoholo Rehab Centre (located in the Limpopo province) focuses on restoring these animals to health and reintroducing them into the wild. This is the perfect placement for those interested in the veterinary aspect of conservation. Alongside its rehabilitation efforts, the Centre also has a highly successful breeding program, currently focused on the extremely rare Taita Falcon.

Addo Elephant Park

Many people, if they are considering taking a wildlife conservation holiday, will have an animal in particular they are interested in working with. If you want to work with elephants, the Addo Elephant Park in the Eastern Cape will be the natural choice for you. Established in 1931, when only 11 elephants remained in an area that was once populated by hundreds, the Addo Elephant Park now has a population of over 450. Managing herds this size takes a considerable effort, and the Park is always looking for volunteers to help them track and monitor the elephant herds.

Mombasa is a major sea gateway for the whole of eastern Africa. It is Kenya’s oldest town and the second largest metropolis, after the capital city, Nairobi. It is also the air gateway for those coming to enjoy the beaches along the Kenyan Coast. From Mombasa, you can enjoy Kenya’s magical wildlife safaris.

Mombasa has a long history dating back to 200 AD. There is an old harbor that is still visited by trading dhows bringing frankincense, Myrrh and marvelous Persian and Bokhara carpets for the Mombasa bazaars. A walk around the old town is a fascinating maze of narrow streets, overhanging balconies and mysterious doorways leading to dark interiors. History and culture of Mombasa A melting pot of diverse culture, once conquered by the Portuguese, Mombasa has seen many rulers and conquerors – the Arabs used Mombasa for the slave trade and the British used the town as a naval and trading post.

Fort Jesus, overlooking the entrance of the old port of Mombasa, was built by the Portuguese in 1593 to protect their trade route to India. An Italian architect, Jao Batisto Cairato, designed it; it was the ‘crown jewel’ of his career. Fort Jesus is today hailed as one of the best examples of 16th century military architecture. In 1962, the Fort opened its doors to the public as a museum and has since remained a popular attraction for foreign and local tourists, researchers and students.

Alongside Lamu town, Mombasa is the epitome of Swahili. Many buildings in residential areas, and part of the old town are still built in the original Swahili architectural form, with a blend of modern plans. Swahili houses are large and spacious, with intricate carvings in wood and plaster and lavish doorframes.

Beach Activities in Mombasa Besides swimming and simple sunbathing, you can undertake a wide variety of water sports and water activities while on vacation in Mombasa. These include scuba diving, snorkeling, dhow trips, deep-sea fishing and many others. The waters below teem with abundant marine life. In Mombasa, the sun shines all year round. The diversity of activity is simply unequaled.

Night life in Mombasa Nightlife in Mombasa is limited mainly to eating out while many of the nearby beach hotels feature discos, casinos and nightclubs. North and south of Mombasa Island are the most developed beach resorts with a wide choice of hotels that have nightlife activities.

National parks for wildlife viewing from Mombasa Because of Mombasa’s proximity to wildlife national parks and game reserves, visitors to Mombasa are able to enjoy safaris to so of Kenya’s wildlife areas. Day excursions to the parks and even short overnight safaris can be easily arranged from Mombasa.

Towards the south of Mombasa, there is The Shimba Hills national reserve and the adjoining Mwalugange Elephant sanctuary represent an environment of extraordinary diversity. Both are no more than 250 square kilometers and 36 square km respectively and yet together they form one East Africa’s most diverse plant and animal havens. It takes less than 1 hour to drive from any of the hotels in the north coast of Mombasa to Shimba Hills Lodge.

Apart from Shimba hills, and to the interior of the country, you find the Tsavo National park. This park is split into two sectors of East and West covering a total area of over 20,000 sq km. Tsavo was once famous for herds of over 60,000 elephants. Although these herds have since been depleted through drought and poaching, it is still possible to see large herds on the east side.

Over the west are the Mzima springs where Hippo and Crocodile can be seen from an underwater hide. Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is a small, private game sanctuary adjoining Tsavo and has a high concentration of wild animals. Driving from Mombasa to Tsavo East gate will take 2 hours at most.

Further inland from Mombasa, you find a little gem of a park – Amboseli – situated right at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Elephants abound in the lower forest and swamp areas. Cheetahs are found on the salt flats, Giraffe wander through the Doum palms while herds of Zebra and Wildebeest feed on the open plains. The snow-capped dome of the mountain provides the perfect backdrop to the peaceful grazing game, making this park a photographer’s paradise.

Kenya, an east African country, is popular for its fauna and scenic landscapes. It is the original home of Africa safari holidays (safari means travel in Swahili). It is the most popular African lion safari country for exclusive luxury holidays,

African Wildlife Safari and budget African safari vacations. It is even believed that Man\’s primordial ancestors may well have originated in Turkana, Northern Kenya as long as five million years ago. Needless to say, hence, that one can enjoy some of the most fascinating sights of the wild world while on a Kenya safari.

Why choose Kenya for a safari tour?

A huge wildlife reservoir: The Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya preserves some of the best wildlife. And its attraction lies not only in the wildebeest migration, but also in its abundance of lions and all other members of the Big Five – leopard, cheetah, rhinoceros and hippopotamus, making Masai Mara a must-visit site during your Kenya tour. It is, indeed, on top of the list when a curious traveler wants to see a great Kenya safari. An alternative way to see the wildlife is by a hot air balloon safari.

A bird-watcher\’s paradise: The bird enthusiast can have the best of the winged world while on a Kenya Safari. The Samburu National Reserve in Kenya is home to hundreds of species of the feathered creatures, making it a perfect destination for the bird lover. Some of the animals that are also frequently seen in the reserve include lions, cheetahs, leopards, elephants, impalas, buffalo, hippos, zebras and giraffes.

Amazing adventure destination: The Mount Kenya is for all those adventure freaks who crave for height and love trekking. And despite its rank as the second highest peak in Africa, Mount Kenya is friendly to the climbers. It doesn\’t take a professional mountaineer to enjoy the beauty of the mountain; however, a physically fit body and a guide are some essential requirements.

The marvelous beaches: Imagine hitting the beach after that dusty and hot safari. And it is not only the Kenya Safaris that are reputable, but the Kenya beaches are a major draw as well. They boast long stretches of soft white sand beaches, charming islands, and reefs, great for diving and snorkeling.

From Mombassa in the south to Lamu in the north – the beach-buffs can get the most of Kenya given its vast reserve of beach resorts.

You will sure make your Kenya safari an experience of a lifetime with the help of our company which also offers travel packages for Tanzania Safaris and many of the other popular tourist hubs in Africa.

How about an African family safari for a vacation? It might sound too far and seem like a totally different world. Well, both are right and that’s why it’s worth considering. A trip to Africa is an extraordinary holiday like no other; it is an excellent break from the conventional weekend picnics, amusement parks and even trips to Europe. An African family safari is not only a great way to spend time together, it will surely ignite everyone’s spirit, invigorate the body and inspire you to live a more meaningful life.

Africa has been gifted with so much natural beauty. Planning well is a must to make the most out of the trip, taking into consideration safety, interests and of course budget. It may be expensive, but rest assured it will be worth every cent spent. Every country in the continent has its own share of stunning sceneries and amazing wildlife. For the first timers, South Africa is one of the safest places for a family with younger children because some of their game reserves are malaria-free all year round and it’s where the famed Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros) can also be seen. Other neighboring countries like Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana and Namibia are equally interesting but game drives and walking safaris might be restricted for the young ones.

Seeing the awe on the face of the children when they first set eyes on a lion, giraffe, elephant, and other animals in their natural habitat is simply a wonderful experience. There are also opportunities for bird watching and snorkeling. Allowing the children to interact with the local children is a good way for them to experience firsthand the African culture. Savor the taste of their wines and food. Enjoy the spectacular landscapes of deserts, forests, mountains, rivers, lakes, waterfalls and cool down in the pristine beaches. The list of things to do in Africa goes on.

An African family safari will make the family much closer and the children more educated. Not only will it make the children environmentally responsible, but also socially responsible as they are exposed to the simple lifestyle of most Africans. The safari experience offers a lot of learning opportunities for children of all ages that a trip to other places can never rival. No matter what country one chooses, Africa promises a wealth of adventure and learning experiences, which will be magical for the whole family, for both parents and children.

A ride on the royal elephant is everybody’s dream. If you want to fulfill such dreams, then come to India. The history of India has witnessed many elephant safari tours undertaken by the Rajas and Maharajas. Now it is your turn.

You can avail any of the popular elephant safari tour packages in India. Elephant safari tours are common in the national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. Some places famous for elephant safari tours are Corbett National Park, Bandhavgarh National Park, Kanha National Park, Kaziranga National Park and Manas Tiger Reserve in Assam.

The Corbett National park, a bird watchers paradise, is ideal for catching a glimpse of the ferocious tiger. The tourists either go for the Jeep Safari or mount on an elephant to cover the entire park. From the elephants back you can view the fish-eating Gharials, Marsh crocodiles and other popular species like Kingfishers, Mammalia, Serpent Eagle, Osprey, Pallas and Himalayan Greyheaded Fishing Eagles. The elephant ride from Dhikala would offer the tourists a close view of the Himalayan wildlife.

Exploring the swamps and grasslands at Kaziranga National Park in Assam is not possible without an elephant. Your elephant safari would make it possible to travel through the tall thickets and patches of the dense forest. While riding an elephant you can view the Rhinos in the subcontinent. Viewing wildlife becomes fairly easy from an elephant’s back.

The famous Manas Tiger Reserve located in the foothills of the Bhutan Hills can also be covered on an elephant. The state of Assam is well known for the great One Horned Rhino. No wonder, the ancient kings or Rajas preferred to go for their hunting expeditions on an elephant.

You can also spot white Tigers of Rewa at Bandhavgarh from an elephants back. The elephant not only takes you to the well preserved wild pockets of Madhya Pradesh, but also gives you a unique opportunity to view the wild animals from a close distance. A tour around the splendid forests of Central India or at other parts of the country can not be complete without a ride on the majestic elephants. Tiger-tracking at these parks is best done with the help of the local mahouts, the elephant trainers. Only elephant can take visitors to those inaccessible sites.

Elephants do not only help you to explore the wildlife sanctuaries and national parks of India, but this giant animal is also used to travel on hilly areas to discover forts and palaces. If you are too tired of walking on the elevated roads, then an elephant can take you to those places.

Rajasthan Elephant Safari is also a great way to explore the royal state in a majestic style. To give an imperial touch to your tour you can use this prime mode of transportation of the kings in the past. Your visits to the old forts and palaces of Rajasthan become much easier on an elephant back.

Apart from the traditional wildlife safari for which Kenya is widely known, the country also offers numerous and different types of other types of tours and excursions that would be interest only to a few people with special, but intense interest. From golfing to filmmaking, to diving, you will find locations and facilities to meet your needs.

There are very many possibilities of enriching a visit to Kenya with tours to areas and establishments of special interest and even meetings with professionals in that particular field. There is a whole range of subjects, which may be included into a customized itinerary – whether you would like to travel as a large group or as a small one.

Some of the areas of interest that you would consider to work around in Kenya are mentioned briefly below.

Agriculture and Horticulture

Kenya has a predominantly agricultural economy, with agriculture, horticulture, livestock, forestry and fishing accounting for a sizeable percentage of the Gross Domestic Product of the country. The most important cash crops are coffee and tea grown in the cool fertile uplands in the central part of the country.

Tropical fruits such as pineapples, paw paws, bananas, mangoes, cashews and macadamias are all grown in Kenya and Tanzania for home consumption and export. In the farming centre of Nakuru, it is possible to visit a pyrethrum factory (Kenya produces almost 80% of the total world production of pyrethrum). In addition, this area is ideally suited to ranching with fine herds of beef cattle as is Naivasha and Nanyuki, with Boran, Sahiwal, Charolais and Hereford breeds.

You can visit flower farms in and around Naivasha town. Kenya produces cut flowers largely for export, supplying almost 98% of its 40 types of flowers to European Countries.

Archaeological Tours

Archaeologically, Kenya is of worldwide interest being the discovery site for some extremely important excavations and findings. Kenya is the cradle of Mankind. Between 1998 and 1999, the remains and fossils of Kenyanthropus platyops, dating back to over 2.6 million years were discovered west of Lake Turkana. These discoveries suggest the protohumans roamed the area more than 20 million years ago. Today, these remains can be found at the National Museums of Kenya.

Historical and Cultural Tours

The coastline of Kenya and Tanzania bears the remains of the many foreign peoples who have passed through its shores in the last 1000 years of history – Chinese, Persians, Arabs, Portuguese to mention just a few. Some were traders and while others were invaders. All the same, all of them have left a fascinating collection of coastal antiquities.

The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama arrived in Malindi in 1498. He received a very warm welcome from the locals and Malindi became a Portuguese centre of trade.

The diversity of the culture of Kenya’s people can be felt through their languages, food, music, beliefs and practices. For example, among the Luhya community of western Kenya, August and December are the months when they circumcise their young lads. Besides the actual initiation ceremony, traditional songs and dances are performed during this period.

Geological Tours

For lovers of geology and gemology, a safari combined with opportunities of meeting local enthusiasts and visits to areas of mineralogical interest can be an exciting experience. The volcanic eruptions that have taken place have created fascinating structures of earth variations.

Golfing Tours

There are 4 championship golf courses in and around Nairobi and nearly 20 courses throughout Kenya, all in beautiful settings. The Kenya Open (handicap 3 or under) attracts world golfing stars during the months of February and March and the Kenya Amateur Championships (handicap seven of less) in November. You can schedule your travel to coincide with the dates.

Deep sea Fishing

For deep sea fishing fans, between the months of October and March there are opportunities of landing record marlin, mako shark and sailfish as well as a plethora of game fish including kingfish, bonito, felusi and black runner along the coastline. During this period regular competitions are held in which overseas visitors are encouraged to participate.

Other special interest tours that can be enjoyed in Kenya include bird watching and diving expeditions. There are over 1000 species of birds while qualified divers can enjoy the reefs of Mombasa with the season running from April to October.

Many other special events and festivals take place in Kenya every year. The main ones include the Kenya Tourism Week, The Safari Rally, Concours d’elegance Motor Show, The Rhino Charge, International Camel Derby and the Dugong Festival/ Lamu Donkey Race.

Africa is the perfect setting for a romantic honeymoon with its atmospheric and remote locations you can combine a luxury safari in the pristine African wilderness with a relaxing beach holiday on the beautiful golden beaches and crystal clear waters of the tropical islands of the Indian Ocean, where you can bask in the glorious sun.

Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia are perfect destinations from which to explore Africa’s magnificent scenery and wildlife.

Botswana

Be poled along the sparkling waterways in the Okavango Delta, Botswana in a mekoro or enjoy an open topped game drive in a Landrover with a private guide. Botswana also has interesting deserts where you can walk with the San Bushmen or explore the region on a desert adapted quad bike.

High season is from July to October and accommodation is scarce so it is advisable to book well in advance to avoid disappointment. The shoulder season is from May to June and is also considered to be a very busy season.

November to April is the least popular time to visit Botswana as the rains force the animals to disperse over wider areas rather than congregating at the waterholes and many of the camps are inaccessible due to the rains that make the roads difficult to drive on.

Kenya

Visit Kenya with its Rift Valley Lakes that stretch from the Middle East down through Africa as far as Mozambique. Kenya is a year round destination for both exceptional game viewing and spectacular scenery. Without a doubt the greatest annual attraction is the annual wildebeest migration between the Serengeti in Tanzania and the Masai Mara in Kenya. This spectacular wildlife event takes place between June and September. It is a sight to behold and a balloon safari is the perfect way to experience this magnificent annual wildlife event.

High season is from January to March when it is most comfortable for travelling during these warm and dry months. The wildlife is generally found around the seasonal water holes during these months, so game viewing is perfect. The Rift Valley Lakes also offer great bird viewing during this time.

The rainy seasons are from April to June and October to December. A positive point during these times is that the lower numbers of tourists, so the travelling experience is more exclusive and the rains do not hinder game viewing.

Kenya combines well with a beach holiday in Zanzibar; with its crystal clear, aquamarine waters it is a diver’s paradise.

Namibia

Namibia offers exceptional wildlife and scenery all year round from the apricot coloured sand dunes of the interior to the haunting beauty of the Skeleton Coast with its skeletal ship wrecks. Namibia is best done as a mobile safari with an expert guide or as a fly-in safari. Must do activities include romantic balloon safaris followed by a champagne breakfast or quad biking in the dunes.

Namibia’s high season is from July to October and it is essential to book your safari well in advance to ensure you have the best choice of accommodation. The shoulder season is from May to June and is also a busy time at the national parks and reserves. Christmas and New Year as well as April are high season for local safari enthusiasts.

Namibia combines perfectly with a beach break in the vibrant and eclectic city Cape Town.

South Africa

South Africa is also a great year round honeymoon destination with a diversity of wildlife, culture and beach activities. An elephant back safari in the Kruger National Park, wine tasting and world class cuisine in the Winelands, relaxing on the white sandy beaches of cosmopolitan Cape Town or a sunset for two on top of Table Mountain with far reaching views of the beautiful Cape peninsula. South Africa offers excellent value for money and a luxury honeymoon is very attainable.

South Africa is a large country with varying regional climates, therefore each region is best suited for travel at specific times of the year.

The northern parts of South Africa (Kruger, Gauteng, Limpopo) are best during the winter months from May to September with wildlife and game viewing at its best. There is little rainfall in winter and the temperatures are very mild (maximum 20-23ºC).

The southern parts (Cape Town, Garden Route, Eastern Cape) are best during the summer months from October to March when the temperature can reach 28-30ºC or higher offering beautiful sunny days. The Atlantic Ocean brings relief in the form of a cool breeze along the coast and the rainfall is low.

A ‘must-see’ for those who enjoy spectacular scenery, the floral extravaganza in Namaqualand in the Western and Northern Cape Provinces from mid August to mid September when the desert-like terrain is transformed into a carpet of flowers or ‘fynbos’ as it is known locally.

Zambia

Zambia is perfect for honeymooners looking for remote camps offering traditional or walking safaris. The camps are intimate and secluded offering guests the right amount of privacy for a romantic honeymoon.

Zambia combines well with a beach break in Mozambique with its sparsely populated, pristine white sandy beaches and aquamarine waters hosting a kaleidoscope of marine life. Mauritius would be another romantic choice to compliment a perfect Zambian safari.

The best time to travel to Zambia for game viewing is September to October when the game gathers around the perennial water holes or rivers. If you travel between June and August, you are also bound to have some good game sightings.

Due to the abundance of water after the rainy season, wildlife is scaterred. This time is known as teh Emerald Season because vegetation is lush and green but obscures game viewing. However, birdwatching is fantastic at this time of year – much better than during the dry season.

The best time to visit Victoria Falls is in April and May after the rainy season – the Falls are truly spectacular at this time, although the spray may obscure your view. At the end of the dry season, October to December, the water levels are low and you can see the magnificent rock formations, or sit in a rock pool and peer over the edge.

Tanzania

Tanzania’s highlights are undoubtedly

the famous Serengeti and the snow-capped Mt. Kilimanjaro and a honeymoon can be perfectly rounded off with a relaxing beach break on the idyllic islands of Zanzibar. This country has a diverse range of national parks and reserves offering habitats ranging from forests to deserts, all connected with regular air and road transfer services.

Tanzania offers excellent game viewing all year round. The migration between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara is a spectacular sight and a highlight when visiting Tanzania, but it is important to note that not all animals migrate and are year-round residents. The Great Migration takes place from April to June and October to December.

There are two rainy seasons in East Africa, the first known as the long rainy season is from April through to June and the shorter season from late November through to December. A positive point during these times is the lower numbers of tourists, so the travelling experience is more exclusive and the rains do not hinder game viewing. The dry seasons are generally better for game viewing when the game concentrates around the water sources.

Africa and the Indian Ocean Islands promise the perfect romantic honeymoon getaway where you will experience some intimate moments in some very special and unforgettable places.

From city breaks to luxury safaris and wine tours, there are a great range of luxury holidays in South Africa. It is a fascinating country – the unique geography ranges from the safari reserves to verdant winelands and subtropical regions, and exploration of the diverse South African countryside is hugely rewarding.

It combines fascinating tracts of untamed wilderness with a refined sense of luxury – the wine here is world famous, there are excellent guided tours to all the major sights and destinations, and there is also an excellent range of luxury hotels in South Africa. You can combine safaris and wildlife tours with great accommodation and plenty of comfort – truly the best of both worlds!

If you are still looking for inspiration, here are some great ideas for a luxury holiday in South Africa…

Visit Cape Town in Style

Cape Town is an essential place to visit on any South Africa holiday. The Victoria and Albert Waterfront is a delightful place to stroll along and take in the sights and from here, you can catch a ferry for Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Cape Town has some superb beaches, and whether you hike or take the cable car, a visit to the top of Table Mountain (which overlooks the city) provides unforgettable views over the city and the Cape of Good Hope.

Take a Luxury Safari

When most people think of holidays in South Africa, they think of safaris. There is an amazingly diverse range of wildlife in this country, from big game animals like rhinos, elephants and lions to many other animals, including giraffes, zebras and hippopotami. A South Africa safari holiday gives a unique opportunity to see these animals up close in their natural environment. Best of all, it is possible to safari in style! The luxury lodges of Kruger Park and the other game reserves are wonderful places to stay out in the wilderness, so you can enjoy every comfort after a day on safari.

Explore the Winelands and Follow the Garden Route

It has long been famous for its outstanding wines, and no luxury holiday to South Africa would be complete without a visit to the wine producing valleys. These are unique in Africa; unusually they have a Mediterranean climate that provides the perfect conditions to produce some of the world’s finest wines. You can take a driving tour of the winelands, sampling the wine and admiring the countryside, and then head out into the lakes, mountain passes and lush forests of the Garden Route along the west coast.

Go Multi Centre

If you want to go further on your luxury holiday than South Africa on its own, you can combine it with a visit to another nearby African country. You could combine a city break in Cape Town with a safari and then go and see the spectacular Victoria Falls in Zambia or follow up a Kruger safari with a beach retreat in Mozambique, or one of a dozen other combinations. Southern Africa is an amazingly diverse region, and a multi centre holiday is a great way to sample the highlights of several different countries.
