Top 5 historic locations in Ireland

The GPO (General Post Office) was the headquarters of the 1916 Easter Rebellion when Irish rebels, led by Padraig Pearse, of the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) proclaimed Ireland a Republic by issuing the Proclamation of the Irish Republic signed by seven members of the army council; Thomas J. Clarke, Sean Mac Diermada, Thomas McDonagh, P.H. Pearse, Eamon Ceant, James Connolly and Joseph Plunkett and declaring war on the occupying British Forces from that moment onward.

Blarney Castle in Ireland

The legend of the Blarney Stone began with the Lord of Blarney who refused to give his allegiance to Queen Elizabeth. In order to keep his land, he had to keep talking and evading the question of whether he was devoted to the Queen. He gained the reputation of fair words and quiet speech. The queen became frustrated with the Lord and shouted, “This is all Blarney; what he says, he never means!”

So, to gain this technique of charm and eloquence, visitors line up to climb the very narrow winding stairway to the open top of the castle tower, lie down and bend backwards with the help of an Irishman, and kiss the stone.

Parks and Gardens in Dublin

Dublin’s fine parks and gardens are the life of the city. They cover a total area of around 5000 acres and range from botanical gardens to large nature reserves and public parks all of which can provide a retreat from the fast life of the city and a great day out.

Covering around 20 acres, Dublin’s National Botanic Gardens is an excellent attraction for the locals and tourists alike. Many who have visited the garden think its wonderful features are ‘worth travelling for’. There are four types of green house and these help to house the gardens 20000 species of plant. There is also a restaurant however some feel that the food doesn’t compare to the standard of the Botanic Gardens.
