The Old Continent will always hold a big draw, and particularly when it comes to honeymoons. Europe is a very lively place that encompasses a wide variety of traditions, languages and sceneries. Below are a few locations that allow for romance and living it up.

Paris, France
The French Capital remains the favorite honeymoon choice for newlyweds, and rightfully so: Beautiful streets, monuments, culture, entertainment galore and everywhere wonderful cuisine. This European icon is so diverse. Couples delight in guided tours on an open excursion boat along the Seine, especially at night, to photograph the awe-inspiring cathedrals and markets Paris is revered for.

Montmartre, in the north of Paris, is a very lively neighborhood where you and your partner see the city at its most bustling and try the excellent cuisine its hundreds of bistros and restaurants have to offer. Night life is also very vibrant in this part of Paris, as we are reminded by the 1999 French film “Amelie”. Culture is inescapable, and don’t forget that the Louvre and Orsay show a wealth of artistic works in the most romantic of settings.

Venice, Italy
Venice is most certainly the world’s most preferred honeymoon spot: The bridges and waterways and the architecture in particular, which have received wide coverage in Hollywood movies are often enough to want to go there for a romantic voyage. There are, however, lots of different ways to get the most out of the city and its surroundings, perfect for a honeymoon.

Fine dining is definitely one of them, especially in breathtaking places like the Piazza di San Marco. Culture, whether it is art or architecture, is ever present in Venice, giving you freedom to either go for long walks or canal tours around the city’s famous neighborhoods, or venture for a deep cultural dive into several of the city’s myriad art galleries. Add a little shopping and it adds up to the ideal honeymoon place.

The Santorini Volcano, Greece
This archipelago glories in the awe-inspiring views and historical pull that is typically associated with Greece. The Santorini volcano, which was once thought to shelter the ruins of Atlantis, is a haven of inspiring Mediterranean sceneries and authentic Greek communities. Attractions abound in Santorini and can turn it into a memorable honeymoon.

Sandy beaches are a short walk or a bus ride away; be sure to stick around at least once so you don’t miss the magnificent sunset on the ocean or from your table on a deck. Archeological dig sites are also a big attraction, not to forget the volcano’s crater, which is still active and accessible to tourists. It is the ultimate Greek experience, and perhaps the most romantic spot on the Mediterranean coast.

Prague, Czech Republic
Centrally located in the Czech Republic, Prague commonly counts as Eastern Europe’s most beautiful citiy, both for its cultural background and its colorful lifestyle. The Old Town is without questions the city’s most popular section of the city; it has endured hundreds of years of diverse history and is peppered with landmarks like the Old Town Square and the Old Synagogue.

Prague provides a wide selection of cultural excursions. Some examples are the National Museum and the Museum of Decorative Arts. What also makes Prague special is a seldom found combination of old gothic and modern architecture, a very distinct setting that is extremely popular with travelers as a group and newlyweds in particular.

Ancient in the true sense of the word the origins and the rich culture of Athens can be traced back to the era when mythical gods and goddesses ruled the world. Today its fascinating history is portrayed by an array of imposing ancient structures each with its own distinctness. With a culture reflecting this rich history, a visit to Athens is definitely a unique experience, especially for the history buff.

Those arriving in Athens for the first time generally head immediately for the Acropolis. Parched on a steep rock above the sprawling city this symbol of ancient Athens dominates the city’s skyline.

Foundations laid in 490BC its main construction had taken place in the Golden Age of Pericles during the period 461-429BC. The site of Acropolis includes the Acropolis Museum and four other sacred building all built in the 5th century BC. The monumental entrance, the Propylaea, adorns the site with its Ionic and Doric styles and the
beautifully restored Temple of Athena Nike is on the left of Propylaea. The largest building on the Acropolis, the biggest surviving monument of Doric architecture, entirely made of Pentelic marble, is the awe-inspiring Pathenon – the backdrop to the magnificent view of Athens from this exotic site.

The remains of ancient Athenian commercial and civic centre, Agora, lies clustered below the Acropolis. The area, where once the great philosophers Socrates and Plato trod, is littered with ruins of numerous ancient buildings such as the Dionysos Theatre, the world’s oldest theatre where great plays by Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides were first performed. The restored building of the 200 BC Stoa of Attalos now contains artifacts portraying 5,000 years of Athenian history.

Southeast of Athens, about an hour’s ride, is Sounion with its famous cape where the foundations of a small Temple of Athena Souniaea and the ruins of the temple of Poseidon are located. Although the famous statue of Poseidon no longer reigns over the ocean below, the Temple of Poseidon, with its magnificent view of the Aegean, still fulfills the role from its high promontory.

The city of Athens itself holds a heap of treasures, lively night life, interesting shops, little churches and restaurants serving culinary delights. With a fairly good public transport system and being pedestrian friendly it’s easy for tourists to explore the city. A popular gathering place for all visitors to the city is the old town section of Athens, better known as Plaka. A stroll through the little streets, with its ancient monuments, Byzantine churches and mosques, is an experience in itself. The traditional ‘rembetika’ music at night complements the atmosphere.

Most of Athens’ museums are clustered along the Vassilissis Sophias Avenue. Also known as the ‘museum mile’ starting from the Syntagma Square, a walk along this avenue takes you through the 3,000 years of Athenian history perusable in some of the best museums including the Benaki Museum, the Museum of Cycladic Art and the Byzantine Museum.
Other places in the city worth exploring are, Monastiraki, renowned for its flea market, the old town atmosphere and lively night life in Psirri, and the Syntagma Square for just relaxing and people watching.

Sifnos has plenty of small villages where life is still lived the ancient Mediterranean way and there are plenty of orchards and hillsides that are covered with aromatic herbs.

Kythnos- this island is still very secluded and does not attract throngs of visitors. The Island has several small villages that have character and the charm that a truly Mediterranean island must have. Life here is very relaxed and there are a number of beaches here that have perfect white sand and sparkling azure waters.

The islands in Greece and Cyclades can leave you mesmerized by their sheer beauty and their enchanting culture, anyone who comes here once will surely be touched by the abundant natural beauty here.

Greece was known for its cheap hotel rooms, free wine during hotel stays, and cheap food. But things have changed drastically since it joined the European Union. The new Euro currency has made prices at the same range as the United Kingdom, Germany and other EU nations. Gone are the days when tourists would be indulged to live at villas, hotels and chateaus for days together, sometimes without payment. Now costs have risen significantly, so much as to make daily food as costly as luxury dining.

The common Greek on the road is too befuddled with the new change to indulge tourists in luxuries. The best way to het cheap hotel rooms in Greece is to find them on hotelcalculator.com. This has a wide array of hotel rooms to fit every pocket and budget. Cheap flights are available on most of the popular routes. These routes are Athens, Corfu, Santorini, Crete and Rhodes. Charter flights are available only on select Greek islands. And holiday packages are designed for these islands as they have big airports to handle them. This brought in untold burdens on these islands.

Holiday resorts have sprung around these airports as travel hungry people look for a fast holiday joint. Other recreation facilities such as fast food outlets, bars and pubs, discotheques and amusement parks have also been developed over the years by contractors wanting to cash in on the tourism boom. You can expect long delays during the summer months on Greek airports. Ferries operate year round on the Greek islands. There are four types of ferries: Hydrofoils, Catamarans, Ferries and Caiques. You should always book your ferries from local agents and not from the ferry office to save money and receive discounts. You should carry your own food and refreshments on the ferry as the food provided are base and expensive.

Scuba diving is very popular on the Greek islands due to the clear water, abundant sea creatures, ship breakdowns on the sea floor and other complex natural underwater structures on the sea floor. There are numerous diving schools and centers on the Greek Islands. You have to choose the ones with the right equipment, license, and courses on offer.

Greek taverns are known for their food. They offer cooked food in the form of various dishes. Fish is costly in Greek taverns and should be avoided. Service is slow and waiting times can eat your holiday time. Breakfasts have little food in them. Greek wine and beer are inexpensive. Coffee does not taste very good in bars. Nescafe sachets are overly priced and should be avoided. Soft drinks are also very pricey. Fresh juices like soft drinks are also highly priced inspite of being natural and of absolutely good taste.

As the Greek weather is very changing nature, it is important for you to plan your Greek holiday accordingly. July is bad for roamers as the rain produces sticky weather. Thomson Beach is the most popular Greek Island holiday company and Kefalonia is the top Greek holiday destination. Booking your Greek islands holidays through agents can ensure a cheap and hassle free holiday. The service is instant, offers discounts on packages and may include freebies too. The best way to find out is to compare different holiday packages to get the best result. Families with children are very welcome on the Greek islands as Greek people adore children. Children under the age are eligible for some discounts in hotels. Some hotels even sport baby sitting for children. Taxi fares on the Greek islands are known to be fine, but you should be careful of drivers trying to charge more from tourists. Car hire outlets will let you hire cars for cheap.

An Aegean yacht charter presents slightly more challenging conditions weather wise on your sailing holiday with the infamous Meltemi blowing through the summer season but most navigation is by line of sight and in the main provides for a perfectly relaxing yacht charter.

The Ionian Sea lies to the west of the mainland of Greece, it combines both good sailing weather, sunny and warm with predictable winds with a fascinating group of islands. Navigation is generally by line of sight and a passage between islands is generally only a few hours in duration The islands are attractive and steeped in Greek mythology. This is a great place for people learning to sail or building experience and so it is no surprise that it is home to several companies running flotilla sailing holidays. Islands that can be visited include; Corfu, Paxos, Levkas, Meganisi, Ithaca, Cephalonia and Zakinthos. More information about yacht charter in the Ionian Sea can be found here.

The Aegean Sea lies to the south and east of mainland Greece and can be divided into the following areas; Crete, Cyclades, Dodecanese, Eastern Sporades, Gulfs of Corinth and Patros, Northern Sporades, Peloponisos and the Saronic

Crete is the largest island in the Aegean Sea and marks the boundary between Europe and Africa. It is 140 miles long (E – W) and around 20 miles wide (N – S). The centre of the island is mountainous and it is rocky and barren in the main. The exceptions being the plains on the north coast and Lasithi Plateau in the mountains. These areas are cultivated and a wide range of fruit and vegetables are grown on Crete.

The Cyclades is the central group of islands in the Aegean Sea. It can be split into three groups; the Northern Cyclades that includes the islands of Kea, Kithnos, Andros, Tinos, Yiaros, Siros, Mikonos, Delos and Rinia; the Central Cyclades that includes Serifos, Sifnos, Andiparos, Paros, Naxos, Dhenoussa, Iraklia, Skhinoussa, Koufonisia and Amorgos; and the Southern Cyclades including the islands of Milos, Kimolos, Folegandros, Sikonos, Ios, Thira and Anafi.

The Dodecanese is a complex of over 163 islands and islets of which only 26 are inhabited. The islands form part of Greece’s eastern border with Turkey. The group of islands can be split in three groups; the Northern Dodecanese and the islands of Arki, Lipso, Kalimnos, Levitha, Leros, Patmos and Gaidharos; the Central Dodecanese and the islands of Kos, Astipalea, Niseros, Symi and Tilos; and the Southern Dodecanese including Rhodes, Karpathos and Kasos.

The Sporades. The Northern Sporades is the correct name for what people usually call the Sporades and the yacht charter area is made up of the scattered, widespread and fertile islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos, Skyros, Pelagos or Kira Panayia and the uninhabited Peristera, Skantzoura, Yioura, Piperi and Psathoura. Skiathos and Skopelos are the main yacht charter bases in the Northern Sporades. The less travelled Eastern Sporades refers to the yacht charter area that includes the islands of Lesbos, Limnos and Chios that run along the Turkish coastline.

The Peloponnisos can be split into the coast of the Western Peloponnisos and the Gulfs of Corinth and Patras. The Western Peloponnisos is in the most part high, rugged mountains, still often snow capped in the spring. The two principal ranges, Taiyetos and Parnon, run south ending at the capes of Matapan and Malea respectively. The northern coast of Peloponnisos is made up of the Gulfs of Patras in the west and Corinth to the east. The Peloponnisos was originally an island but great geological upheavals united with the mainland. A later retreat by the sea formed the Isthmus of Corinth which in turn was cut in the 19th century to make the Corinth canal and made Peloponnisos an island again.

The Saronic Gulf lies to the south of Athens, the capital of Greece. As a practical sailing area it includes the Athens or Attica coast on the mainland, the eastern coast of the Peloponnisos including the Gulfs of Idhras and Argolikos. Some of the better known Islands include Aigina, Poros, Idhra or Hydra and Spetsai.

There is an abundance of places to go and things to do in the city of Athens, Greece. You should have no trouble filling your time in Athens with wonderful memories and beautiful snapshots. Here are some places to get you started:

Make sure that you see the Acropolis and the Parthenon. This is known as one of the many wonders of the ancient world. Not only is this a great place to spend your time, but also your money. There is a ticket you can purchase that allows you to see the other major archaeological sites as well. Traveling overseas is an expensive thing to do, even if you budget wisely, but that doesn’t mean that you need to limit the sightseeing that you do to bare minimum. In an ideal world you will make time to visit the Theater of Herod Atticus, Theater of Dionysious, and the Ancient Agoraare during your vacation in Athens since each of these places will have its own merits that you will want to uncover. Make sure that you set aside ample time to explore these areas so that you do not feel too rushed.

The National Archeological Museum in Athens is only a short walk from Syntagma. It will likely take you a half hour to an hour to comfortably complete the walk. It may seem like a long walk, but when you get there you will find that it was more than worth your effort to get there. There is no better museum on the planet to see a collection of ancient Greek sculpture. Jewelery, pottery, and items found in a shipwreck off the island of Antikithera are also on exhibit at the National Archeological Museum. Even if you are not a history buff or the slightest bit interested in history, you will have a difficult time not finding just about everything in the National Archeological Museum fascinating. For those of you that already can’t get enough of history, you will probably want to camp out here and never leave. There is such a vast array of exhibits at the National Archeological Museum that you can’t help but get carried away and want to spend all day there.

Regardless of how you feel about shopping, no trip to Athens is complete without a trip to the Angora-Athens Market. Completely regardless of your tastes and preferences of fish, meat, and vegetables you will find that the most likely place around is the Central market on Athinas Street. Make a stop at the market whenever it fits into your day. Early in the morning trucks unload and you can join most of the Athenian shoppers around midday. During this time you will get to feel like you are a native to Athens. Make sure that you ask the locals about their favorite foods at this market. They shop here all the time and can point you in the direction of some foods and finds that you would not have an opportunity to try any other time. Even if it is something that you are not entirely comfortable with, try to give new foods that you find at this market a try if you want to have a real Greek experience during your stay in Athens.

If you are able to, you may seriously wish to consider taking some time to climb Mount Lycabettus. If you choose to put in the effort a breathtaking view and outstanding cafe will await you. If you are not able to make the trek but do want to see the top of the mountain you can take a train close to the top of the mountain. Many visitors say that walking down the mountain is a lot of fun, even if the climb up the mountain was difficult. You will likely walk through a neighborhood or two on your way down the mountain. Each of these tiny neighborhoods have their own townspeople with aspects of their Greek culture that is unique to their neighborhood. If you have been fascinated by Greek ways up until this point in your trip you may want to consider trying to spend some extra time on your stroll down the wonderful Mount Lycabettus.

If you’re going to take a vacation, you might as well go to the top 10 vacation spots and get your money’s worth. As your travel guide, let me take you through some of the most enchanting and exotic places in the world.

By the time you’re done reading this article, you’re going to want to book the next ticket to your dream destination.

So without further ado, I present to you my top 10 vacation spots in the world.

1) Venice

Venice is known for its canals and gondolas. While big-time developers all over the world are copying its architectural design, there’s nothing quite like the original. And with most of the original buildings still intact, it’s not difficult to imagine yourself transported back to the 19th century.

Art and culture make Venice their home. So if you want to satisfy your longing for beauty and grandeur, Venice is your place.

2) Tokyo

Second on the top 10 vacation spots in the world list is Tokyo. In the capital of Japan, you’ll discover a perfect fusion of modern and traditional cultures. 21st century infrastructures stand side by side with hundred-year old shrines and temples.

3) Las Vegas

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. It is the city of sin after all. If money is no object, then nothing should stop you from literally spending the night (or nights) away in some of the city’s most illustrious casinos. It’s living life on the fast lane.

4) The Bahamas

The Bahamas consists of multiple islands. From the barrier reef rich Andros to paradise island Nassau, you can take your pick of any underwater adventure you like.

Although famous for its beaches, the Bahamas Islands also have a wide array of land activities. Mother Nature will spoil you with bird watching and nature hiking. If you want more time for relaxation, the people will spoil you with their addicting spa treatments.

5) Andalucia

Andalucia houses three major World Heritage monuments: the Alhambra in Granada, the Great Mosque of Cordoba and the Giralda in Sevilla.

If you’re into sightseeing, you wouldn’t want to miss these three! However, Andalucia also offers a variety of sports activities depending on the season. Some of them include skiing, horse riding, golf, hiking, paddel and lots more. If you want to try hunting and shooting, you’ll be glad to know that Spain’s autonomous community has one of the best games around.

6) India

No Top 10 Vacation Spots list is complete without India. This beautiful country is one of the world’s most prominent centers of spirituality. No matter what religion you belong to, you’re sure to find peace here.

Just standing in front of the Taj Mahal, for example, will take your breath away and make you feel grateful for being alive. The diverse cuisine is also one reason that makes India such a great vacation spot.

7) Africa

Animals in their natural habitat are vastly different from the animals you see in zoos. If you want to go all out for your vacation, why not go on an African Safari? That experience will definitely prove to be a most memorable one.

 Madrid

Madrid is known as the capital of bullfighting. If that’s not enough to lure you to Spain, then maybe the thought of finding treasure in one of the world’s largest flea markets will.

Madrid is known for its local markets where you’ll find everything from antiques to paintings.

9) Rome

Rome is a huge museum in itself. Architecture by Leonardo da Vinci, Michaelangelo and Bernini abound.

This is one place where you cannot possibly run out of culture to soak up. Rome is also home to the last few surviving architecture from the ancient world. Make sure to visit the Pantheon and the Colosseum.

10) Greece

Greece has certainly become one of the premier travel destinations in the world. This is where you can put your lessons in Greek mythology to good use. Explore the temples and sites where ancient Greeks used to worship their gods.

However, if you want to relax and stay out of adventure, you’ll definitely be well taken cared of as well.

These are my top 10 vacation spots. Find out which best suits your plans and don’t forget to bring back a souvenir!

Amorgos
When you cruise Greek islands, you may not be able to see all the smaller areas of Greece like this one.
