Summer’s well on its way and, when you’re a British citizen, you’ve got to make the most of it. Whether this year will promise us two days, two weeks or two months of sunshine, it’s important to take the opportunity while it’s here and book a holiday or two – but where to go? After all, in a country as diverse and unique as the UK, it’s not easy to decide just which city or countryside area to head to – but there are certainly some easy options.

When it comes to hitting the big city, it’s only natural to think of London. London is a city with everything, from the glitz and glamour of being an international icon to its myriad attractions, events and nightlife, London is an obvious choice when it comes to top summer holiday destinations. Coupled with excellent summer weather – perfect for working on that tan – London is truly an excellent option if you’re stuck for ideas.

But the big city isn’t everything, and perhaps you’d like to visit somewhere with a little more robust character – or simply somewhere that isn’t heaving with millions of other summer holidaymakers. If you’re a Londoner yourself, perhaps you just want to get as far away from the big city as possible – which is where the north of Scotland comes in. Why not head way up north and take a ferry to the majestic Orkney Islands? Still capable of getting a little summer sunshine, the Orkney Islands offer Scottish hospitality at its best – and some of the best locally-brewed ales you’ll ever taste. Coupled with the Neolithic site of Skara Brae and the quaint town of Stromness, Orkney is a truly fantastic destination, whales and all.

If natural beauty is your bag, you may want to head to the Yorkshire Dales, where you can rent a car and enjoy beautiful countryside packed with plenty of walks and hiking routes. What’s more, you can stay in the gorgeous city of York and really make the most of a majestic holiday setting – as well as travel to nearby Durham in order to see yet more eye-catching scenery.

Of course, you can’t mention beautiful cities without touching upon the Scottish capital Edinburgh – with a dynamic skyline including ancient volcanoes, intricate monuments, high-reaching towers and steeples and, of course, the incredible Edinburgh Castle, this mesmerising city is a cobblestoned paradise visitors will never forget. What’s more, with the Edinburgh Fringe theatre and arts festival taking place every August, it’s a true goldmine when it comes to a summer treat.

With so much to choose from, you may find yourself needing a while to decide where to go, but don’t worry – there are plenty of last minute hotels dotted all over the UK, so you can be sure of getting the holiday you want, when you want it.

One of the best things about London is the fact that it offers so much to do for its visitors. There’s room for travelers of all energy levels here, as there are plenty of interesting sights to see and tastes to sample. Located on St. Martin’s Place, The National Portrait Gallery is one of the most interesting places in London where visitors will be able to see remarkably accurate portraits of a number of influential figures from England’s past. The Natural History Museum is another must- visit site in London that visitors simply cannot afford to miss, as the sheer number and diversity of the exhibits are fascinating to say the least. Among the most popular exhibits in the museum are the dinosaur skeletons, the animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex and the massive blue whale. One section of the museums is totally dedicated to bugs, while another section showcasing fossilized specimens of pre historic life can also be found here. The Taste of London festival is one of the most anticipated culinary events which brings some of England’s greatest chefs from a variety of restaurants together and gives them a chance to showcase their talents in an event that demands the attention of an entire nation. The summer edition of the festival is to be held at Regents Park where visitors can sample a mind-blowing variety of dishes and beverages from all around the world. Every year, the festival also focuses part of its attention on the cuisine of one particular country, which in turn offers a chance for a few foreign restaurants to represent their country. This is an aspect of the festival that adds a certain spark to the event. There’s always something new on offer at the Taste of London festival, ensuring satisfaction for all who visit London during this time of year. Copthorne Tara Hotel London Kensington is an ideal choice for those wish to book a Central London hotel in Kensington as a preferred lodging option. This flagship London UK hotel offers a host of splendid dining options and a variety of useful facilities to make your stay that much more special.

• Many of the more memorable sights and places to visit in London are free or cost just a few pounds but for some unmissable sights such as the Tower of London, you will have to stretch your budget a little further. Central London is surprisingly compact – Buckingham Palace (and the Changing of the Guard), The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the London Eye are all possible to visit during a morning’s walk. Off course, if you wish to tour Westminster Abbey, go inside Buckingham Palace during the Summer Opening or take a trip on the London Eye, you will need to allocate more time and money.

• Most of London’s most important museums are free to visit but because of the sheer number of exhibits, it is impossible to see everything in one visit. You could spend some time trying to decipher the Egyptian hieroglyphic writing on the Rosseta Stone in the British Museum, take a Victorian walk passing original Victorian shop fronts in the Museum of London, see Dinosaur exhibits, complete with life-sized roaring T- Rex in the Natural History Museum or visit the World’s finest museum of decorative arts, the Victoria and Albert Museum. All of these London Museums are free to enter and just represent a few of the many free museums in London.

• Did you know? You can see over 2,300 masterpieces for free in the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square and in the nearby, National Portrait Gallery you can explore over 160,000 portraits from the 16th Century to the present day. A fantastic collection of International modern and contemporary art can be seen at Tate Modern, Bankside, London while Tate Britain, Millbank, London is the home of British art from 1500 to the present day. There are many, many more art galleries to visit in London and many will not charge you to enter.

• When you tire of sightseeing in London and you want to take a break or you want somewhere peaceful to have a picnic lunch why not visit one of the London Royal Parks? – All are free.

The Regent’s Park – has both open parkland and beautiful formal gardens; a sizeable boating lake and open air theatre.

Kensington Gardens has impressive tree-lined avenues and is the setting for Kensington Palace (Diana, Princess of Wales former home) – the kids will enjoy The Diana, Princess of Wales, Memorial Playground.

St James’s Park is at the very heart of London. Often used for ceremonial and state occasions, the Park is a fantastic setting for pomp and splendour. Three royal palaces surround St James’s Park. The oldest palace is Westminster, now known as the Houses of Parliament. The Tudor St James’s Palace still holds the title of the Court of St James even though the Monarch has lived in the third palace, Buckingham Palace since 1837.

Hyde Park is home to the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain. This Memorial to Diana, Princess of Wales was opened by Her Majesty the Queen on 6th July 2004. If you Visit Hyde Park on a Sunday you can watch speakers delivering their views in the north east corner of Hyde Park at Speakers Corner, the cradle of free speech.

• London markets are vibrant, varied and well worth a visit. Among the most popular are:

Petticoat Lane Market – for fashion clothing and leather goods Open: Monday to Friday 10am to 3pm and on Sundays from 9am to 3pm

Portobello Road Market- sells everything from antiques to silverware, second-hand clothes and fruit and vegetables. Open: Monday to Wednesday 8am to 6pm, Thursday 9am to 1pm, Friday – Sat 8am to 7pm

Borough Market is London’s favorite food market and sells imported and organic products such as wines, cheese, fish and meat. Open: Thurs, Fri 12 to 6pm, Saturday 9am to 4pm

Covent Garden Market – two markets here sell antiques, clothing, gifts and jewelery. Open: Monday to Sunday 10am to 6pm

Most of all – enjoy your time in old London Town!

The London Eye has long been a clear favourite among visitors. It holds the title of most popular paid-for attraction in Britain, welcoming about 3.5 million visitors each year. The 135m observation wheelthe largest in the worldstands on Londons South Bank and offers 25 mile views on a clear day, taking in over 55 of Londons famous landmarks.

The London Eye has enjoyed its share of controversy as well. Origionally called the Mellenium Wheel, and sponsored by British Airways, the London Eye is now owned by Merlin Entertainments, who also own Madamme Tussauds in London.

Fears of shutdown emerged after reports of a leaked letter emerged, showing the South Bank Centre–owners of part of the land supporting the London Eye–were demanding increased rent that the London Eye operators were unwilling to pay. After a judicial review of the rent row, in 2006 an agreement was reached for a 25-year lease, ensuring the London Eye would remain a London landmark for years to come.

The London Eye often celebrates events utilizing special lighting. The Mayor of Londons New Years Eve Fireworks are launched off the wheel each year, and this St. Patricks Day, the wheel will feature green lighting. During the London 2012 Olympics, the London Eye will display the Olympic emblem as well.
Tickets run just under £18 for adults and £10 for children for a standard flight, though pricier champagne or fast track options are available. For opening times or to book online, visit www.londoneye.com.

London Is among the best tourist places to be visited. It is the capital city of England and has been a major centre of attraction for tourists from all over the world. It has claimed the rights to host the 2012 Olympics.

London has a really great and interesting history. Authentic and active living history in London is something that just passes by you if you reside there and you tend to take everything for granted.

The shifting of the guard is a daily incident at Betty and Phil’s place, which is at the end of the mall. That is of course pointing to the Buckingham Palace and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Prince of Edinburgh Philip Duke. Possibly the key prominence of the Changing of the Guards in current years was held soon following the terrible actions of 911 when instead of acting on the tag of God Save the Queen, the group of the Guards presented what became a rather touching presentation of the Star Spangled Banner, which is the national anthem of the United States of America.

It is necessary to remember the importance of this incident since it was the one time that another country’s national anthem was played during the changing of the guards instead of God Save the Queen.

It may well be debated that such incidents amount to precisely what a prosperous range of customs and history is present in London. In contrast to other chief global capital cities, London may perhaps be deficient in the historic magnificence of the Parthenon in Athens, or the Coliseum in Rome, but all over London you will discover instances of a rather new design such as the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, which is beautiful, or the calmness of St Paul’s Cathedral an endurance of numerous centuries and in several ways every bit as inspiring even at present as during the days of its creation by the great architect Sir Christopher Wren. London is famous for these popular buildings and these attract many people from all over the world to London.

The construction and reality of St Paul’s Cathedral is an amazing illustration if someone needs, of how history survives vast national and international devastation like the big fire of London and then four centuries after, the wrath of World War II.

Probably the survival of living history like the St. Paul’s Cathedral in the presence of such an up-to-date and a full of life city of London truly shows that the general appeal of London is in these monuments and it is a combination of a remarkable and historic mix of old and new.

Back to now, the London Eye is one of it’s kind that you can’t miss. With a ticket for only £50 – which is quite a low price for London – you can take a look at one of the most, if not most, vibrant cities in the world.

A visit to London is an opportunity to explore the amazing landscapes of the beautiful city. So if you do get a chance to visit this remarkable city, do not miss it because it is a once in a life time opportunity.

St. Paul’s Cathedral is located on Ludgate Hill, and is a familiar landmark to all Londoners. For over 1400 years Ludgate Hill has been a place where people come to worship. The present Cathedral was completed only in 1707 as the Great Fire in 1666 ruined the previous Cathedral. Therefore the Cathedral that people worship today is believed to be the fifth at Ludgate Hill and it’s of Anglican faith. This building is of great pride to all Londoners. It is famous for surviving the Blitz in the 1940’s.The Royal family uses it for its various functions. The Cathedral is famous for the most celebrated wedding of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diane. It is said that the view of London from top of the dome is unparallel to any other. The crypt at St Paul’s Cathedral has many famous people buried there, the Duke of Wellington and Admiral Nelson to name a few, and there are memorials of 300 military demigods, the lady with the lamp – Florence Nightingale, Lord Kitchener and many more great people. Outside the cathedral is a monument which honors 32,000 killed and 50,000 badly injured civilians who protected the Cathedral during the 2nd World War.

Staying in Central London hotel will make it easy and less time consuming to visit all the great attractions the city has to offer.
