A holiday to the Caribbean offers you the chance to visit some of the most spectacular beaches in the world. Virtually every island of the Caribbean will have beaches that amaze; with crystal clear blue seas, sugar white sand & palm trees.

To help you choose where to go and more importantly what beach to choose, we have compiled a list of the top 10 beaches in the Caribbean.

1/ Palm Beach (Aruba) – Idyllic beach setting with superb white sand.

2/ Grand Anse Beach (Grenada) – 3km beach with sugar-white sand, lots of space & shallow waters.

3/ Johnson’s Point (Antigua) – Made up of secluded coves; these white soft sand beaches are a must for snorkeling & swimming

4/ Pink Sand Beach ( Bahamas) – One of the world’s most photographed beaches, often voted world’s best by travel publications. 5km’s of salmon pink coloured sand, due to red plankton that has mixed with the fine white sand.

5/ Crane Beach (Barbados) – Often voted as Barbados’ most beautiful beach. Imposing cliffs, a natural coral reef and soft white sands make for a perfect beach.

6/ Negril Beach (Jamaica) – Laid back atmosphere and Jamaica’s prettiest beach. A lot quieter than Seven Mile beach.

7/ Englishman’s Bay (Tobago) – A sheltered beach with fine white sand, crystal waters & surrounded by a palm jungle.

8/ Grace Bay (Turks & Caicos) – Part of a national marine park, this beach has fine white sand, calm turquoise waters and is protected by a barrier reef.

9/ Trunk Bay (US Virgin Islands) – A beautiful beach with crystal clear waters, considered one of the best places for snorkeling in the Caribbean.

10/ Shoal Bay (Anguilla) – Put Angullia on the tourism map; sugar-white sand, crystal clear blue waters & coral reefs.

There comes a time in every snowy, bitterly cold, sun-starved winter season that even the hardiest optimists want to crawl under the covers and stay there until the first signs of warm weather. This year, instead of hibernating in a cocoon of blankets, consider booking a relaxing cruise to the southern Caribbean to recharge your batteries and remind you how exciting life away from the nearest heating vent can be.

Deciding on the Cruise for You

Finding the cruise that fits into both your schedule and budget can be a frustrating task, especially if it’s your fist time. However, organizing your getaway need not be such a headache as long as you can decide upon a few factors:

Length: Cruises come in all shapes and sizes, from five-hour jaunts to month-long commitments, but most travelers choose something in between. The most popular trips last 5 days, 7 days or 2 weeks.

When to Travel: Sailing dates are available for nearly every date imaginable, but not all dates are priced equally. Caribbean cruising high seasons are winter and summer, with prices nearly doubling for all cabins around the winter holidays. In general, winter rates for a five-day cruise begin at $300 per person for the most modest lodgings — an inside cabin with no window and smaller quarters — and can reach up to $1500 or more for spacious suites featuring lots of windows and a private balcony.

Destination: Choosing the Southern Caribbean as your destination is a wise choice because of its popularity among cruise lines; more ships going where you want to go means more chances at finding a trip that fits.

On Board Activities

The activities available on cruise ships can vary depending on how large the ship itself is and what type of cruise you decide to take. For instance, family cruises will feature extensive programs for both kids and families, affording parents both time alone to enjoy themselves and fun opportunities to spend time as a family. Some ships also feature their own special touches like ice skating rinks and rock climbing walls, but in general, most cruises put their own twists on classic amenities including:

First rate spas where passengers can get massages, luxurious facials and maybe some more interesting offerings like acupuncture or aromatherapy

Musicals and Broadway-style shows sure to thrill any audience with world-class talent and offerings

Swimming pools and water parks from surf parks to wave pools and amazing water slides

A plethora of dining options where you may be tempted to spend an inordinate amount of your time — expect to find a whole range of fare from indulgent fine dining to options for guests with special diets.

Ports of Call

The Southern Caribbean is one of the world’s most popular cruise destinations owing to its nearly perfect climate, crystal clear waters and pristine white sands beaches, but especially for the number and incredible variety of diverse and fascinating ports concentrated in a relatively small area. For example, a typical seven-day cruise departing from San Juan, Puerto Rico can visit ports in Aruba, Curacao, Dominica and St. Thomas before heading back to its home port.

Calls at port are passengers’ opportunities to experience a world where snow only exists on mountain peaks and relaxation is a way of life. Stays in port can last anywhere from a few hours up to a few days, depending on the sort of cruise you’ve booked, and on shore activities range anywhere from lazing on white sanded beaches after a hike through the jungle to haggling with the locals for some remarkable souvenirs. Berthing on a cruise ship gives you the added bonus of having an ever-present relaxing, safe and secure (albeit floating) haven to escape to when you need a break.

Some other popular and exciting opportunities when you go ashore include:

Snorkeling and SCUBA diving: whether it’s your first time with a snorkel or you’re a veteran diver, guided classes and expeditions to breathtaking locations below the waves are available year-round at most Southern Caribbean locations

White sand beaches: while on shore, cruise crew staff can help you book a private beachside cabana for the day or the night where you can sip drinks in the sand under the palms.

Island adventure tours: many islands of the Southern Caribbean offer visitors the chance to tour their unique geographic marvels. You can see Aruba’s untamed coast on an off-road jeep safari or explore the mangrove trees on a guided kayaking excursion.

If you can find a moment amid the adventure, fun and relaxation, pick up a pen and drop a line to your poor shivering friends and relatives up north. Because after all, there’s no shame in gloating over your perfect vacation.

When visiting Aruba, tourists often spend most of their time near the western shore, home to the island’s capital and cultural center – Oranjestad – and most of the top beach resorts. Though the eastern half of Aruba lacks the glamour of the western beach areas, the area is home to many charming destinations waiting to captivate curious travelers. As the island is only 20 miles long, the small towns surrounding the island’s second-largest city, San Nicolas, and the incredibly diverse sights of eastern Aruba are only a short drive from all of the top resorts.

Pos Chiquito

Located almost directly between Oranjestad and San Nicolas along the southern coast’s Route 1, the small town of Pos Chiquito stands as one of Aruba’s top destinations for scuba divers and snorkelers. Just offshore from town, near a rugged section of shoreline known as Rocky Beach, scuba divers and snorkelers will find one of Aruba’s best coral reefs. As the site is visited regularly by local dive tours and used as a training ground for aspiring guides, the offshore sights at Pos Chiquito are not exactly a secret. However, there are rarely crowds in Pos Chiquito and the coral reef is so expansive that divers will never have trouble enjoying this exciting underwater environment at their own pace.

While scuba diving and snorkeling are certainly the biggest draws in Pos Chiquito, the town also has plenty to offer those in search of simple relaxation. This quiet community is known throughout Aruba for its refined regional architecture and laid-back atmosphere. As a close-knit community that includes many expatriates, Pos Chiquito is also home to an interesting variety of eateries where tourists are always welcome.

Pos Chiquito rests just east of the island’s center along Route 1, the scenic road that stretches all the way from Boca Beach on the northwestern shore to San Nicolas and the eastern shore. Pos Chiquito can also be reached easily from the north end of Aruba via Routes 4 and 6.

Savaneta

Though Savaneta is home to no more than small handful of businesses, this southern shore destination has developed a reputation as an excellent dining destination. Though Savaneta lacks the high-class establishments found throughout the Oranjestad and the western resort areas, the town’s eateries regularly serve up some of Aruba’s best seafood and Latin American dishes.

Savaneta also holds the distinctions of being the oldest remaining town in Aruba – dating to the beginning of Dutch rule in 1816 – the island’s original capital and site of oldest colonial home. After exploring the historic sites, many travelers also visit some of the charming beaches that rest just minutes from the heart of town.

Savaneta lies just east of Pos Chiquito on Aruba’s popular Route 1 and can be reached from either Oranjestad or San Nicolas in approximately 15 minutes.

Seroe Colorado

The town of Seroe Colorado, located near the southeastern tip of Aruba, was developed during the first half of the 20th century as a idyllic, comfortable community for the island’s growing number of oil workers. Though many of the families have since moved to other parts of the island, Seroe Colorado retains much of its exotic charm. Most of the town’s diminutive white houses remain intact, most flanked by dramatic cacti plants and other natural vegetation. At the heart of town, visitors will also find an austere chapel originally constructed in 1939.

Despite the peaceful atmosphere found in Seroe Colorado, most visitors use the town as a gateway to the sights of Aruba’s southeastern shore. Just east of town, visitors will find a natural bridge resting alongside a dramatic section of coastline. Despite being less-celebrated than the Natural Bridge that collapsed in 2005 and its remaining sister arch, Baby Bridge, the natural bridge near Seroe Colorado offers an incredible sightseeing opportunity amongst one of Aruba’s seldom-explored areas.

Though the exposed shoreline just east of Seroe Colorado is known for its dramatic scenery, two of the island’s most popular family beaches rest just a few miles south of town. Unlike the natural bridge area east of Seroe Colorado, Baby Beach and Rodgers Beach are protected by the southern tip of the island, meaning visitors will always find calm conditions, white sand and warm, shallow water.

As Route 1 runs north of the town and access from San Nicolas is hampered by private industrial areas, Seroe Colorado is slightly more difficult to reach than most of Aruba’s small communities. The most efficient way to reach Seroe Colorado is to follow Route 1 east from San Nicolas until the road terminates at a three-way intersection near the eastern shore. From the junction, visitors can follow the shoreline road south to Seroe Colorado and nearby beach destinations.

Though visitors to Aruba will certainly want to spend much of their time exploring Oranjestad and relaxing on the incomparable beaches of the western shore, the small towns on the eastern half of the island can be enjoyed in a single afternoon. Furthermore, as Route 1 provides easy access to many of eastern Aruba’s sights, including the city of San Nicolas, tourists have no reason to overlook the island’s quieter half.

As Aruba is known for its mild year-round weather, there are always plenty of ways for families to enjoy the evening hours. Oranjestad is home to numerous family entertainment destinations that remain open into the evening hours throughout the year – including a popular go-kart track, a miniature golf course and batting cages. Families can also visit a variety of arcades, including several conveniently located within the city’s top resorts. The relaxed atmosphere of the city also allows families to simply wander the picturesque streets, exploring shops, family-friendly eateries and historic attractions.

The Renaissance Cinema located in the Renaissance Marketplace is another great choice for families in search of an entertaining evening. Showing all the latest blockbusters in English with incredibly affordable ticket prices, the Renaissance Cinema in downtown Oranjestad has become a favorite escape of local and visiting families alike. Families with older children looking for late night activities can also take advantage of the theater’s popular midnight movies each Friday and Saturday.

Though the Renaissance Cinema offers everything traveling families look for in a movie theater – including a convenient location near most of the island’s top resorts – those exploring the island with a rental car or recreational vehicle will want to visit one of Aruba’s hidden treasures, the E. De Veer Drive-In Theater. Located adjacent to the Balashi Brewery between Oranjestad and San Nicolas, the E. De Veer Drive-In Theater screens many of the latest Hollywood films, but the exotic setting and endless field of stars are often the bigger attractions. While the E. De Veer Drive-In Theater features low entrance fees for all films, special rates for families are offered on Sundays and Wednesdays, allowing the whole family to enjoy both the scenery and a movie for $6.

Many of Aruba’s top resorts stage theme nights with family-friendly entertainment and refreshments. In nearly all cases, resorts serve locally inspired meals alongside live entertainment that offers a taste of Aruban culture or long-standing Caribbean traditions such as Carnival. Such live entertainment can also be found throughout the theaters of Oranjestad, where exciting musical and dance productions can be experienced throughout the year.

Throughout the year, several of Aruba’s top resorts also offer special promotions for families with small children. For instance, the “Escape!” Family Package offered by the Aruba Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino includes special room rates for families, as well as a number of fun and convenient perks. Each morning, both parents and kids are treated to a complimentary breakfast, while milk and cookies are provided with each nightly turndown service. Over the course of their stay, families can also take advantage of pizza and movie nights presented by the resort.

From daytime activities such as snorkeling, swimming and hiking to evening entertainment like movies, arcades and special resort events, every day is an action-packed adventure for visiting families. Additionally, as many of Aruba’s top resorts participate in the island’s family-friendly tourism goals, parents and children will regularly find both exciting events and remarkable values to complete their Caribbean getaways.

Aruba is my favorite Caribbean destination, and my Aruba auto rental makes my trip complete. Many people never even leave their resort on the southwest coast. And while on one hand I can’t blame them for not wanting to leave, they’re missing out on some of the best parts of the island.

I’m not even going to bring up how much easier shopping is in Oranjestad with a car rental (okay, I already did). Aruba is the crossroads of the Caribbean combining European, North American, South American, and Creole cultures onto one tiny island that is only 70 square miles.

Granted your beach resort takes the breath away with the pristine white sands and smooth turquoise waters. However, hop in that Aruba auto rental and visit the top wonders of this beautiful island. You may want to consider an off-terrain vehicle while you’re at it.

1. California Lighthouse – This lighthouse went up in 1914, and makes Aruba visible to Venezuela (only 15 miles off the coast), Curacao, and Bonaire.

2. Butterfly Farm – This is a nice break to take with the kids. It can also make a great romantic getaway. The 3,000 square foot farm is filled with waterfalls and tropical gardens. New Age music permeates the air as butterflies flutter around, and it smells heavenly.

3. Bushiribana Gold Mill – In 1824, a little boy playing in the water struck gold. The gold rush was on! Today, the relics of the stone mall and gold digger’s camp are still there to climb to the peak of the heap.

4. Arikok National Park – An ecological treasure of cacti and aloe right in the middle of the Caribbean–who would have guessed there was a desert here?

5. Natural Bridge – There are over seven of these wonders. Don’t forget your camera for this one.

6. Natural Pool – This makes a great off-terrain day trip to a breathtaking view of the ocean crashing up against the rocks.

7. DePalm Island – Some of the best scuba diving in the Caribbean.

Holidays are for relaxing, not for worrying! Who wants to worry about their safety when they’re trying to de-stress? Unfortunately it’s often easier to figure out which places tourists should avoid, than which countries will welcome them with open arms. However, Forbes Traveller has recently chosen the top ten holiday destinations, based on various studies. The choices are based on criteria such as the UN Crime Study and the results from this year’s Mercer Rankings Study, as well as warnings from the US Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Some choices, such as Switzerland, peaceful New Zealand or glittering Singapore were to be expected, but there are some surprises in store…

ABC-Islands (Caribbean) The ABC of safety are the southern Caribbean islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. The reasons? For hurricanes, they are too far south, they have low crime rates and a multicultural tourist-friendly population.

Dubai Artificial, but safe! Although Dubai is currently suffering from the recession, the country remains safe due to its multitude of CCTV cameras and its stable political and social climate.

Ireland According to a study from the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Irish are European folk least inclined to violence! Perhaps they prefer to just talk their problems out…?

Cyprus A little miracle: smack dab in the middle of the Near East is an oasis of peace. This is probably due to the strong economic climate, impression education system, an emphasis on familial values – and two British military bases.

New Zealand This island has one of the lowest rates of crime and violence in the entire world. Due to its location, New Zealand is safe from tropical storms (too far south) and also from antarctic snowstorms (too far north). Not bad!

Mauritius Together with the Seychelles, Mauritius has the lowest rate of crime in Africa. So why is only Mauritius in the top ten? Well…due to its location much further south in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is safe from piracy!

Bhutan Located in the Himalayas, this kingdom is one of the safest Asian countries. Most of the people are poor, but due to their buddhist beliefs and high level of family values they are some of happiest people in Asia.

Switzerland Amazing but true: three of the five safest cities in the world are in Switzerland (that’s Bern, Genf and Zürich, if you wanted to know). The only warning: watch out for your valuables when taking the night trains across the border!

Iceland Iceland has been most affected by the economic crisis, but the island’s inhabitants have remained peaceful. The level of crime is still remarkably low, possibly due to the excellent education standards.

Singapore Almost a complete lack of natural catastrophes, a law-abiding population and a strong system in case of terrorist threats mean Singapore is as safe as they come…

Aruba is an island enclosed by the Caribbean Sea. It is situated a few miles off the coast of Venezuela and was part of the Netherlands Antilles. It became an independent member in 1986. Its capital city is Oranjestad, located in the western end. It’s closer to South America, and absolutely feels diverse than the standard tropical island. Instead of crowds of college students and overrun hotels, you’ll find room to breathe and a decidedly different style. All the usual activities are available, like swimming, snorkeling, and lounging on the beach, but a few new twists are added to the mix here in Aruba.

If you are planning for an Aruba travel, don’t just be too excited with all that are waiting for you out there. Instead, plan your Aruba travel in the best possible way. Think about everything associated with it and weigh all your options carefully. This is mainly for the fact that an Aruba travel could be one of the biggest investments you can make. It should be considered carefully to obtain that ultimate Aruba travel vacation you’ve ever wanted.

Aruba is a foreign country, so make sure you have all the documents needed for your Aruba vacations. Check your passport and make sure that it current and valid. Note that if your passport is not valid, and then expect not to reach Aruba until you’ve renewed your passport. Aside from that, check your flight tickets. Look at everything stressed in the tickets and check the exact time of your departure and arrival. Once double checked, make yourself ready for it. Reach the airport as early as possible.

Aruba has a dry, sunny climate that maintains a regular annual temperature of 27 degrees Celsius. Its sunny climes are made cooler by trade winds and rain occurs principally in October and November. There’s also no need to bother about strong weather since Aruba is unaffected by hurricanes, making your vacation that much more enjoyable and worry – free.

You’ll certainly want to take advantage of the sunshine and the trade winds, so bring plenty of sunscreen and your favorite swimsuit and prepare to make these your primary accessories. From up and coming sports like kite surfing to old favorites like wave running, you’ll find yourself spending lots of time out on the water. Each individual hobby can be satisfied here, so surfers, divers, and deep-sea fishers will all find themselves living the good life as they forget about the drone and drain of modern life.

There are also activities that, while not exactly new or groundbreaking, at least offer their charms before a unique backdrop. Golfing in Aruba will involve the usual teeing off and perhaps a few minor frustrations with your game, but as you glance over at the turquoise waves or listen to the sound of the crashing surf, your tension will melt away. The same goes for your tennis game, and as you jog, bike, swim or whatever it is that keeps you in shape, you’ll probably find yourself spacing out and feeling no pain thanks to the breathtaking beauty that surrounds you.

As a result, tourists in Aruba can find a number of dining and entertainment options to keep the excitement going from sunset to sunrise.

The numerous restaurants and cafes of Oranjestad provide the best way to start a night in Aruba. Whether you are looking for a romantic dinner or a meal accompanied by live music, there are plenty of great options throughout the city. As Aruba attracts an array of international tourists, the restaurants of Oranjestad feature a wide variety of exotic cuisine. However, many of Aruba’s favorite eateries boast a uniquely Caribbean flavor, including menus created with fresh seafood as the focus. Many of Oranjestad’s restaurants also feature outdoor dining to allow visitors an opportunity to enjoy the island’s scenery and perfect evening weather.

After dinner, many visitors to Aruba make their way to one of the exciting live shows that are produced throughout the year. Aruba’s most popular show is the top-rated Let’s Go Latin at Renaissance’s Crystal Theater. The over-the-top musical takes the stage every Monday through Saturday at 9 PM. In addition to Let’s Go Latin, tourists can also visit numerous other stage shows throughout Oranjestad, including several influenced by the island’s rich cultural history.

When the shows let out, the next stop for the adventurous tourist should be one of Aruba’s bars or clubs. Regardless of your nightlife tastes, Aruba will have a hotspot that caters to your desires. Older travelers often visit Aruba’s classy cigar bars and jazz clubs, where top-shelf drinks can be enjoyed while soaking up Caribbean-tinged tunes. Younger travelers will want to check out some of Aruba’s boisterous night clubs for late-night dancing and locally-inspired cocktails. While some of the clubs in Aruba cater to American and European tourists with popular music and well-known drink options, there are plenty of friendly bars and dance halls that revel in the Caribbean setting and allow visitors to enjoy an exotic night on the town.

After the bars and clubs close in the wee hours, those hoping to keep the night alive can head over to the Crystal Casino, Aruba’s only 24-hour casino. Located only steps from the beach at the Renaissance Aruba Resort in Oranjestad, the Crystal Casino offers all the best table games and video machines found in the casinos of Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Even if you don’t want to put your money on the line, the Crystal Casino can be a great place to mingle with fellow travelers or simply observe some late-night excitement.

As sunrise approaches, the committed night owls begin making their way to the cafes that line the beaches of Oranjestad. Not only can you watch the sunrise over the city, but you can enjoy breakfast or coffee right on the beach. If you are waking early, these cafes and coffee shops are also a great place to plan your day in Aruba or catch up on the news.

Whether you are in search of a non-stop party or simply want to enjoy the cultured pleasures of Aruba’s nightlife, this exciting island always has the perfect adventure in store. Though there is so much to see and do during the daylight hours in Aruba, a trip to some of Oranjestad’s late-night hotspots will allow you to experience another side of this vibrant Caribbean destination.
