South Africa is a significant and diverse place getting holidaymakers and visitors from all over the planet. There is a whole lot to observe and undertake in this interesting country, it is not really feasible to visit the whole place but naturally, there are some places that a good number of visitors aim to visit as part of their holiday.

Cape Town is the “Mother City” and is on the travel plans of a staggering 70% of travellers to South Africa from the United Kingdom. The famous Table Mountain is the background to this impressive urban centre which sits at the very end of Africa where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans collide. Desirable attractions in and about The Mother City include the Victoria and Albert Waterfront, Robben Island or a visit to the top of Table Mountain. It is also the ideal base to visit the Winelands of the Western Cape of the Western Cape.

Kruger National Park is certainly one of the most well known safari parks worldwide. Found in the North East part of South Africa, it covers an area approximately the size of Israel and is home to the “Big Five” (Leopard, Lion, Rhino, Elephant, Buffalo). Even if there are literally scores of national parks in the country, Kruger is easily the best known.

The Garden Route is a picturesque section of shoreline in the Western Cape. It is successful with adventure seekers and outdoor enthusiasts. In the course of parts of the year at Hermanus, it is feasible to watch the Southern Right Whales from the shore as they make their way past. There are ample beautiful little towns to discover along this section of shore line.

Durban’s Beaches are beautiful. The golden sands attract sun-worshippers throughout the year as the temperature even in the middle of winter often hits 25 Celcius. It is a excellent choice for surfers too and the recently opened uShaka Marineworld is another well liked place to pay a visit.

South African wine is one of the most popular worldwide and the majority of of the winelands of the western cape date back centuries to the time of the Dutch settlers. Locations like Paarl, Franschoek and Stellenbosch can all be reached on day trips from The Mother City or as an alternative, you could stay in amongst the numerous homesteads in the place.

Making the decision to drop by and see South Africa is not difficult. The demanding thing folks have is attempting to put together their itinerary for their South Africa holidays.

Here is the comprehensive guide to some of the festivals which will held in the month of March and April.

CAPE TOWN JAZZ FESTIVAL, the annual Cape Town jazz festival is the culmination of world renowned musicians providing a cohesive star studded lineup. Each year 40 performers- an equal mix of African and international musicians- descend upon festival’s five stages to deliver some of the best jazz to be heard on the continent. It also features photographic and art exhibition. A favorite among music lovers the 2010 festival will hold on 3rdand 4th April.

OPPIKOPPI EASTER FESTIVAL, The festival is held in Northam ,Norhtwest in the month of March. Primarily a music festival, it started off focusing mostly on rock music, but gradually added more genres anything from jazz, world music , house music, acoustic , comedy and all else in between can be heard on one of the multiple stages. The festival takes place over a period of three days. During the thrilling event fans are given a chance to interact with their favorite bands on a more intimate level. Singing, DVD sale, T-shirts sale and much much more have become commonplace at this massively popular event.

TONTELDOOS PEACH FESTIVAL. It happens in late March or early April in the village of Tonteldoos. It offers peaches and pretty much everything that can be made from the fruit, including peach mampoer. Items not to be missed on the program include birds of prey in action, hot air balloon, an Easter bonnet competition, arts and crafts, boeresport, Mr and Mrs Tonteldoos competitions and a model aero plane show.
6. Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens

Set against the slopes of Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens showcase some of the Cape’s most magnificent plant and flower life. The sprawling gardens offer many beautiful walking and hiking paths, as well an array of indigenous gardens featuring fynbos, proteas and cycads. Visitors may also opt to enjoy a picnic on the emerald lawns of the gardens. Bring your own snacks or purchase delicious treats from Kirstenbosch’s deli.

During the summer months, sunset concerts take place at Kirstenbosch, usually on Sunday evenings. The gardens also offer a restaurant, tourist information centre, nursery and curio shop. The gardens are open every day of the year, and entrance fee in nominal.

7. The District Six Museum

During the years of apartheid, 60,000 people were forcibly removed from their homes in District Six. Today, the District 6 Museum serves as a “living memorial” of this cruelty – but also as a celebration of the talents and contributions of District Six’s inhabitants.

The District Six museum features both permanent exhibitions and temporary displays, and offers a fascinating look at Cape Town’s past. A visit to the District Six Museum is highly recommended for any visitor to the Cape, and particularly for those wishing to learn more about South Africa’s chequered past and far brighter future.

8. The Castle of Good Hope

The Castle of Good Hope is the oldest surviving structure in Cape Town, having been built between 1666 and 1679 by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) as a refreshment station for the settlers. For many years, until the settlement grew, it served as the administrative, civilian and military centre of the Cape.

The Castle, today, remains the seat of the military in the Cape. It also houses the William Fehr Collection and the Castle Military Museum. It also features an impressive sword collection. Visitors to the Castle are invited to explore its well-preserved interiors and bell tower, as well as its majestic balconies and reconstructed forge. Regular tours take place from Monday to Saturday, and horse-and-carriage rides take place daily.

9. Table Mountain Cableway

Table Mountain is one of Cape Town’s most famous landmarks, and a visit to the Mother City wouldn’t be complete without a journey to its peak! Luckily, you don’t have to climb the mountain if you’re not so inclined! The Table Mountain Cableway transports visitors to the top of Table Mountain daily, providing unparalleled, 360° views of Cape Town.

Once at the top, visitors are invited to enjoy refreshments at the Table Mountain restaurants, explore various walking paths or take advantage of fantastic photographic opportunities. A truly unique experience, a trip up Table Mountain in the cable car is not to be missed!

10. Cape Town Beaches

Cape Town’s beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world, featuring soft, pearly sand and clear blue water. Many of Cape Town’s beaches boast Blue Flag status, which means that they excel in safety, cleanliness, maintenance and amenities, offering a first-class bathing and relaxation experience to visitors.

High quality beaches are found in most parts of Cape Town – from Blouberg and Big Bay (ideal for water sports) to Camps Bay and Clifton (the trendiest strips in the Cape) and Noordhoek and Kommetjie – quieter shores that are perfect for families or romantic outings. Visiting one of these magnificent beaches is an integral part of any Cape Town holiday!

Making the most of your Cape Town vacation

Experience the best of the Cape by including some of these activities and attractions on your holiday itinerary. Also be sure to book good quality accommodation so that you can relax in style after your days spent exploring the Mother City.

From centuries-old to spanking new, the top tourist attractions in Cape Town are worthy additions to any travel itinerary. Below, discover 5 of the city’s most exciting attractions, and be sure the visit them out during your next trip to the Mother City.

1. The Cape Town Stadium
Once known as the Green Point Stadium, this impressive arena was renamed the Cape Town Stadium following a R4.4-billion makeover that commenced in March 2007. In a highly successful collaboration between local and international architects, the 68,000-seater stadium was completed in 2009, and the breathtaking structure is now ready to host sporting events on a grand scale.

The Cape Town Stadium, with its reflective exterior and advanced design, has drawn much excitement from locals and visitors alike. Against a backdrop of Table Mountain, the arena is a spectacular sight to behold – particularly at night, when its interior spotlights ignite the skyline of the Green Point Common.

2. The V&A Waterfront
The V&A Waterfront is the premier destination for shopping, recreation and dining in Cape Town. Offering exclusive boutiques, restaurants and entertainment venues at the edge of Cape Town’s harbour, the Waterfront is the leading tourist attraction in the Mother City.

The V&A Waterfront is situated between Robben Island and Table Mountain, thus offering both exceptional views and easy access to these other top attractions. Aside from shopping, dining and live entertainment, the Waterfront also offers sea and air charters and tours, trips to Robben Island and Seal Island, the impressive Two Oceans Aquarium, ample parking and the historic Clock Tower, which was built in 1882 and is still working today.

3. Long Street
One of Cape Town’s oldest streets, Long Street is lined with Victorian buildings, eclectic boutiques and a selection of Cape Town’s trendiest nightspots. It’s also one of the best places to find curios, quaint bookshops and pavement cafes, and to experience the cosmopolitan atmosphere for which Cape Town is renowned.

Featuring colourful facades and the authentic architecture of yesteryear, the 3,8km Long Street offers fantastic photographic opportunities to travellers. It’s the ideal place to sample local fare, enjoy Cape Town’s famous nightlife, or simply soak up the unique Cape Town vibe.

4. South African National Gallery
The South African National Gallery is located along the tree-lined Government Avenue, adjacent to the Company Gardens in Cape Town. It features of extensive collections of permanent and temporary exhibitions, and is particularly celebrated for its collections of African, South African, Dutch, Flemish, French and British artworks. The Gallery also showcases a variety of indigenous sculptures, beadworks and crafts.

The South African National Gallery was established in 1871 with just 45 paintings. Today, it showcases one of Africa’s largest collections of local and international artwork. Exhibitions are regularly updated, and temporary collections are frequently showcased.

5. Robben Island Museum
Robben Island, once a site of conflict and incarceration, is today a celebrated museum that highlights the struggles of the past and the success of democracy in South Africa. Situated 12km from Table Bay, the island was used to imprison political prisoners from 1959 to the 1990s – the most famous of whom was Nelson Mandela, South Africa’s former president.

A guided tour of the Robben Island museum is valuable experience for any visitor to the Cape. Tour guides – many of whom are former prisoners themselves – offer riveting insight into the island’s tumultuous past. Tours include return ferry trips to the island, a tour of the now-disused maximum security prison, and a 45-minute bus tour of the island, with commentary.

Planning a trip to Cape Town, but tired of hotels, nosy B&B owners or the same old guesthouse? The answer is simple – pick rental apartments. Cape Town offers something for every taste and budget.

There are a few things to consider before you book. Firstly, decide on location. When it comes to rental apartments, Cape Town leads the pack – you can find something for any budget and taste in almost any area.

Whether you are looking for New York-style living in a fancy studio apartment in the city centre, luxury pampering on the beach in Clifton or a village-feel in Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek or Kommetjie, Cape Town offers this and much more.

Boasting some of the most luxurious rental apartments Cape Town has to offer, the V&A Waterfront – one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations – hosts a number of apartments fit for a king. While the apartments are fully equipped, they often come with full five-star services, giving you a luxury stay without the usual hotel frustrations. Of course, spectacular views of Table Mountain and the harbour come standard!

Other popular areas to consider include the popular Atlantic Seaboard, with Sea Point and Green Point a stone’s throw from the city centre and the golden beaches at Clifton and Camp’s Bay. For those who want to be close to the city but enjoy some peace and quiet, beach towns like Melkbosstrand, Somerset West and Gordon’s Bay are a stone’s throw away and also offers various rental apartment options.

Not everything should cost a fortune, however. When it comes to rental apartments, Cape Town really caters for the budget traveller too, offering a host of convenient options that won’t break the bank.

When you book, make sure you use a reputable agent and know what to expect. Ask to see pictures or references of previous visitors, and enjoy the trip!

Cape Town is a city which boasts a diverse range of attractions, sights and activities to see and enjoy. From the landmark beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay to the award winning wine farms of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, time spent in Cape Town can be as laid back or exciting as you like.

Cape Town offers some of the best beaches in the world so if you are a sand and sea lover make sure you get a trip to the beach organised. Clifton Beach is one of Cape Town’s most popular and is made up of four coves.

Camps Bay is a long sandy beach and is generally more family friendly as it is bigger thus has more space for games and fun.

Thirdly, if you travel a little further along the coastline you will come across picturesque Llandudno beach, by far one of the most beautiful, with white sand, tropical blue water and spectacular sunsets.

Away from the beach there is lots more to do. The wild and rugged Table Mountain rests in the very centre of Cape Town and merits a visit. Take a trip on the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway to gain a bird’s eye view of this flora coated natural wonder. There are also hiking trails if you are feeling spritely.

For the slightly more adventurous a trip can be taken over Table Mountain in a British fighter jet! This is a truly unique travel adventure that can be talked about for years to come.

The Stellenbosch Wine Route is another holiday activity with a difference. The oldest wine route in South Africa boasts breathtaking vistas and majestic mountain backdrops.

For lovers of the outdoors the Kirstenbosch National Botanic Gardens make an enjoyable stop. Founded in 1913, the gardens are world-renowned for the beauty of their flora and forest. Covering 528 hectares and set against the eastern slopes of Table Mountain these certainly are botanical gardens with a difference.

Table Mountain National Park is another hotspot. A natural World Heritage Site and spanning 22,100 hectares you can stand at the most south-westerly point of Africa, hunt for shipwrecks or simply marvel at one of the highest sea cliffs in the world which stands 249 metres above sea level.

There are plenty of things to see indoors too. The South African Museum and Planetarium is perfect for children and adults alike. South Africa’s oldest museum has excellent ethnographic displays, with displays on traditional medicine and some excellent examples of African.

The Bo-Kaap Museum offers something slightly different. Situated in the Bo-Kaap District this is an interesting Muslim neighbourhood and museum to visit.

If you are booking flights to Cape Town you may find you need to change at Johannesburg or depending on where you are coming from you may be able to catch a direct flight. Cape Town International Airport is located just 20km east of the city centre.

Cape Town Travel Attractions…

Cape Town travel is internationally renowned for the endless and diverse attractions offered by this gorgeous cosmopolitan city and its surrounding areas. The Cape Town accommodation offerings present the perfect location from which to explore everything this fantastic holiday city has to offer.

No Cape Town holiday is complete without a trip up Table Mountain via the Cableway which provides 360 degree views of all the splendour that Cape Town has to offer and is an excellent way to get your bearings before heading out to explore.

Cape Town travel is internationally renowned for the scenic drives and gorgeous beaches you will encounter. A drive along the Atlantic seaboard will take you past Clifton – the most popular stretch of beach in the country, Camps Bay – a slice of tropical island paradise with beach side cafes, restaurants and night-time hotspots, Llundudno – a surfers dream complete with bronzed bikini clad maidens, and then on to Hout Bay – a fishing village and small harbour with excellent seafood and boat trips out to Seal Island.

Then it’s over Chapman’s Peak – a mountain pass carved into a sheer cliff face rising up out of the Atlantic Ocean with arguably the best views you’ll ever see from inside a vehicle – and on towards distant Cape Point along a road that hugs a coastline filled with crashing waves, dolphins and whales, all available on our Cape Town Tours.

After a visit to Cape Point return via False Bay where you will find a colony of Jackass penguins’ en-route, a naval base at Simon’s Town and the National Botanical Gardens at Kirstenbosch – one of the worlds finest with over 5000 plant species and incredible hikes and views. A must visit during your Cape Town holiday are the rolling vineyards of the Cape Wine Route, you can see all of this and more with our 7 day self drive Whale Route and Winelands Tour.

Back in Cape Town you’ll find the Castle of Good Hope – the oldest building in South Africa and protector of the new Cape, the Bo Kaap – a Cape Malay area with beautifully coloured historic houses and then finally the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. No Cape Town holiday is complete without a trip to this working harbour, shopping and entertainment complex. From this harbour in the centre of Cape Town, travel by boat, on a day trip to Robben Island – the former prison island where Nelson Mandela spent 27 years of his life.

By world standards Cape Town is a small city, confined in its growth by both the sea and the mountain and covering only a dozen or so blocks. Its suburbs however are enormous, located in widely varied surroundings and stretching outwards from the city centre for tens of kilometres. What makes a Cape Town holiday so interesting are the attractions located in each of these suburbs. Each suburb is rich in a culture and history as varied as the surroundings you find them in. The contrasts between Bishops Court, Kommetjie, the Cape Flats and Kayelitsha are mind boggling, reflecting South Africa’s deeply divided past. Township tours are a major attraction and give visitors insights into exactly what life is like for the underprivileged and the innovative ways they have come up with to try and improve their situations.

Cape Town is a city located on the West Coast of Africa, near L`agullas that composes most of the Southern part of the continent. It is a beautiful place with a very nice climate with winter rainfall and very strong seasonal winds, knowing that it is a coastal city. Cape Town is also well known for its most miraculous Table Mountain and the laid back attitude, which became part of the Cape cultural heritage.

The History Of Cape Town

It was Bartolomeus Dias who led the Europeans to “The Cape of Good Hope” first. He called it the ‘Cabo Tormentosa’ meaning “The Cape of Storms”. A decade after that, Vasco de Gama arrived at the Cape. From then on, Eastern trade was monopolized by the Portuguese and the local ethnic group the Khoi-khoi became familiar with the Europeans. This planted the seed for the Capes cultural diversity. The Portuguese realized that as the Cape lies on the sea route from Europe and Asia, it could be used as a halfway station for ships to take in fresh water and food. So in 1652, Jan van Riebeek established a permanent settlement there, which facilitated trade to the East. Slaves where imported to work on fields to grow crops that was needed for food for the passing ships. These imported slaves also contributed to the cultural heritage of the Cape.

Tourism

The Cape has a good variety of ethnic music, along with African dancers, which can be witnessed at the St George’s Mall. There one can find good traditional African music performed with instruments such as bongo drums, xylophones and flutes. On the first day of January the streets of Cape Town will be filled with rich cultural activity of the “Kaapse Klopse” or Coon Carnival. This annual parade consists of 20,000 people who will dance and sing, performing traditional tunes to start the New Year on a positive note. This time of the year is famous for the singing of the Cape’s Malay choirs and many church choirs, which forms a distinct part of the music and cultural heritage of Cape Town.

If you are touring to this beautiful city you will find it easy to get around with the attractive Cape Town car rental deals available.

Architecture And Robben Island

Cape Town has a combination of British, Dutch & African styles of houses. The older houses of the Dutch era represent the ancient culture of the city. The poor black people who can not afford nicely built houses, build their own houses in unique indigenous ways, using whatever things available. This style is called “shack chic”. The tourists can visit nearby Robben Island by boat. The erstwhile white racist rulers used to keep political prisoners on this island during the freedom struggle of black African people. The first black president of South Africa- Nelson Mandela was imprisoned on the island for 27 years. Many other political leaders fighting against racism of earlier South African regime were kept prisoners on this island. Now the government of South Africa has turned the island into a museum, showing the history of struggle against apartheid.

The Castle Of Good Hope And Table Mountain

A popular tourist attraction in Cape Town is the Castle of Good Hope. It is located in the center of Cape Town. As South Africa’s oldest remaining stone building, it is not only a tourist attraction but serves as the headquarters for the Western Cape military. Tourists will find a wonderful museum and great food as well then visiting the castle. The thing that Cape Town’s probably most known for is its flat mountain called “Table Mountain”. There you will find an exciting cable car service that will take you to the top of the mountain where you can then enjoy a meal at the popular restaurant at the top while experiencing the breathtaking view of the whole Cape Town.

Cape town is a city with lot of tourist attractions. Getting a cheap flight into Cape Town is just as easy getting the attractive rates on their car rental deals. The city is also known for its variety of lodges, hotels, bed and breakfast houses, and back packers. The city will suit any type of tourist as it supports different type of people, food, and music and of course variety architecture.

The Cape Town tourism industry has really grown in the past few years. This growth is said to be continuing in the following years, despite the fact that the world is currently experiencing a global economic crisis. Also, the country is making efforts to strengthen its tourism industry, and this includes Cape Town tourism, to make sure that it is ready to accommodate and entertain all the tourists that will travel to South Africa for the international football event, the World Cup in 2010.

As Cape Town began to grow, the world started to really discover the true potential of this beautiful tourist destination. Whether for pure pleasure or business opportunities, the number of people travelling to South Africa, and especially Cape Town, has increased tremendously. You should also know that South Africa was voted as one of the top 25 tourist destinations worldwide.

A truly important aspect that helped Cape Town’s tourism industry’s growth was Cape Town’s architecture that incorporates different architectural styles from all over the world, England, France, Holland, etc. Cape Town’s architecture is considered to have the largest number of buildings built following the trends of the Cape Dutch style.

Cape Town’s tourism industry also profits from the annual Minstrel Carnival, or it is more widely known Kaapse Klopse, which is held each year on January 2nd. While it is not competing with the Rio carnival, Kaapse Klopse has a lot of color, music, and beautiful displays that are sure to entertain anyone visiting or passing through Cape Town.

The Cape, as it was fondly named by locals and tourists who took advantage of what the Cape Town tourism industry has to offer, also has spots untouched by this industry. This virgin spots can be quite a delight for those wanting a little more privacy.
