Every year millions of us decide on where we will take out trips during the holidays, from action packed holidays to all inclusive beach holidays. When people plan a trip to Jamaica we usually choose one of the luxurious all inclusive resorts to soak up some warm sun and have a restful time. As restorative as this is to our bodies why not try something different to awaken your soul and your senses while experiencing the true Jamaica.
Not just choosing a new location, a new resort or daring to venture out at lunch times into the local community try a whole new experience, volunteer. Some can gain a vast amount from giving up some of their own time for others. Whether choosing to give an hour a day once a week or opting to donate three weeks of their holiday time for a better cause; there is a big sense of satisfaction that can be achieved when the progress is seen. Perhaps you are already one of the wonderful people who do donate your time to others and are looking for a new inspiration for where to go.
The Parish of St Andrew in Jamaica is located on the South East of the island and has a large part of the land given over to agriculture. It is here that some of the popular export goods are grown such as mangoes and coffee. Along with the vast amount of agriculture there are vast amounts of smiling faces of children to be seen.
Going on a volunteering trip to Jamaica will allow you to encounter some of the children from the poorer communities and learn what makes them smile while teaching them skills from their curriculum. It is said that the Jamaican education system is somewhat advanced compared to many others in the western world, so having the chance to experience this first hand is a must.
Not being tied into a resort will allow you to experience the true culture first hand from a local perspective with the guidance of people who are truly aware.
There are many more highlights to be expected during this time; you can view the greenery of the hilltop views from the top of Smokey Manor. During your down time assuming you are not exhausted from the excitement of the children, you can feel the white sands on your feet and see the stunning blue seas. Taste the local dishes of curry goat and jerk chicken and soak in some of the warm sun rays.
Embarking on a volunteering trip to Jamaica should leave you exhilarated from all the local views and people that you encounter. Bringing back that warm feeling of Jamaica back into your home life, feeling rewarded for the help that you have been and the holiday you have had.
